Abstract

Inflammasomes are intracellular protein complexes that play a crucial role in regulating the innate immune response and defending against harmful insults.  Increasing evidence indicates that activation of the inflammasome pathway in brain cells plays an important pathological role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Targeting the inflammasome pathway is a promising strategy for developing new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.   In this review, we have recapped the wide-ranging involvement of inflammasome pathway activation in neurodegenerative diseases and highlighted the current approaches for the development of therapeutic strategies targeting this pathway.
